Immigration, Teddy Roosevelt, and The Law

I'm a little tired of the whole immigration issue. Sometimes the answer is simple and this is one of those cases. The laws of this nation have been broken and it's borders violated. Does that mean I'm against LEGAL immigrants? No more than Teddy Roosevelt was, so here's what he had to say about immigrants lawfully coming to America:

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag."

— Theodore Roosevelt 1907

The illegal aliens protesting today should be arrested and sent back to their country of citizenship. Then, showing proper respect for the laws of this country, they should apply for entry and begin a process of pursuing citizenship that includes learning the laws of this nation and promising to obey them. You can't start on the road to law-abiding citizenship if you are already disobeying the law. It's that simple!
