Road to Profit - Screwing Workers
So, you work for a company and you work hard; hard enough that you are eventually able to earn a pretty good wage. How do they pay you back? By firing you, of course. Here's a perfect example from today's news:
Here's a suggestion: go to Circuit City, pick out a 60" plasma TV, have them ring it up, and then tell them that you changed your mind and you are not going to buy it because they treat their employees like garbage. Better yet, make sure you call for a manager and tell him.
RICHMOND, Va. -- Circuit City Stores Inc. said Wednesday it plans to cut costs by laying off about 3,400 store workers and hiring lower-paid employees to replace them, and by trimming about 130 corporate jobs.
Its shares rose 3 percent in morning trading.
Circuit City, the nation's No. 2 consumer electronics retailer behind Best Buy Co. Inc., the store workers being laid off were earning "well above the market-based salary range for their role." They will be replaced with employees who will be paid at the current market range, the company said in a news release.
When do you suppose that anyone will figure out that, if we keep lowering the wages of workers, we are lowering the spending power of the consumer. Any idiot, providing they DO NOT have an economics degree, can figure out that this will simply destroy the economy, especially if its combined with CEO compensation that exceeds the income of small countries. Here's a suggestion: go to Circuit City, pick out a 60" plasma TV, have them ring it up, and then tell them that you changed your mind and you are not going to buy it because they treat their employees like garbage. Better yet, make sure you call for a manager and tell him.
